Sepasang Sepatu Sports

Pelajaran moral neh buat anak ABG or yg masi punya sifat boros kayak ABG....

Menjadi “sama dan serupa” dengan remaja lain merupakan keinginan dari semua
remaja.
Saya ingin memiliki sepasang sepatu sport mutakhir yang sedang “in”.
Persoalannya, bulan lalu saya baru saja membeli sepasang sepatu kulit.
Tapi, sepatu sport benar benar sedang mode, oleh sebab itu saya datang
kepada ayah minta bantuannya.
“Saya perlu sedikit uang untuk sepatu sport”, ujar saya suatu petang di
bengkel di mana ayah saya bekerja sebagai montir.
“Willie” ayah kelihatannya terkejut.
“Sepatumu baru berumur satu bulan, tapi Mengapa kini kau perlukan sepatu
baru?”
“Setiap orang memakai sepatu sport yah!”
“Sangat boleh jadi nak, Namun hal tersebut tidak menjadikan ayah mudah
membayar sepatu sport ”
Gaji ayah kecil dan sering tidak cukup untuk memenuhi kebutuhan sehari
hari.
“Ayah, saya tampak seperti bloon memakai sepatu jenis ini ” kataku sambil
menunjuk kepada sepasang sepatu oxford baru.
Ayah memandang dalam dalam ke mataku.
Kemudian ia menjawab, “Begini saja, Kau pakai sepatu ini satu hari
lagi.Besok, di sekolah, perhatikan semua sepatu dari kawan-kawanmu. Bila
seusai sekolah kau masih berkeyakinan bahwa sepatumu paling butut
dibandingkan sepatu kawan kawanmu, ayah akan memotong uang belanja ibumu dan
membelikanmu sepasang sepatu sports”
Dengan gembira saya pergi ke sekolah, keesokan paginya, penuh keyakinan
bahwa hari itu merupakan hari terakhir bagiku mamakai sepatu oxford yang
ketinggalan jaman ini.
Saya lakukan apa yang ayah perintahkan saya lakukan, namun tidak, saya
ceritakan apa yang saya lihat secara teliti.
Sepatu coklat, sepatu hitam, sepatu tennis yang sudah kusam, semua menjadi
pusat perhatianku.
Pada petang hari, saya memiliki perbendaharaan dalam ingatanku betapa
banyaknya teman teman di sekolah yang juga memakai sepatu bukan sport,
bahkan sepatu - sepatu rusak, berlobang, menganga dan lain lain bentuk yang
sudah mendekati kepunahan sebagai alat pelindung kaki.
Namun banyak juga yang memakai sepatu sport yang gagah, yang senantiasa
berdetak detik penuh gaya bila si pemiliknya menghentakkannya dengan gagah
perkasa.
Setelah sekolah usai, saya berjalan cepat ke bengkel di mana ayah bekerja.
Saya hampir yakin bahwa Senin depan saya juga akan masuk kelompok yang
sedang “in”
Setiap saya menghentakkan tumit saya di jalan, saya membayangkan telah
memakai sepatu sport idaman saya.
Bengkel sepi sekali saat itu. Suara yang terdengar hanya denting-denting
metal dari kolong sebuah chevy tua buatan tahun 1956.
Udara berbau oli, namun pada hemat penciuman saya, asyik sekali.
Hanya seorang langganan sedang menunggu ayah yang sedang bergulat di kolong
chevy tua itu.
“Pak Alva” tanya saya kepada langganan yang sedang menunggu, “masih
lamakah?”
“Entah Will. Kau tahu sifat ayahmu. Ia sedang membongkar persneling, namun
bila ia mendapatkan adanya bagian lain yang tidak beres, ia akan
menyelesaikannya juga.”
Saya bersandar pada mobil abu abu itu.
Apa yang bisa saya lihat hanyalah sepasang kaki ayah yang menjulur keluar
dari kolong mobil.
Sambil menjentik jentik lampu belakang chevy, secara tidak sadar saya
menatap kepada kaki ayah.
Celana kerjanya berwarna biru tua, kusam dan lengket terkena oli, lusuh
pula.
Sepatunya, berwarna putih tua…. ah ….bukan hitam muda……, dan sungguh
sungguh butut, sebagaimana mestinya sepatu seorang montir.
Sepatu kirinya sudah tidak bersol, dan bagian kanan masih memiliki sepotong
kecil kulit tipis, yang dahulu bernama sol. Di ujungnya, sebaris staples
menggigit kedua belah kulit kencang kencang, mencegah jempol kakinya
mengintip keluar. Tali sepatunya beriap riap, dan sebuah lubang
memperlihatkan sebagian dari jari kelingkingnya yang terbalut kaus katun.
“Sudah pulang nak? “ayah keluar dari kolong mobil.
“Yes sir” kataku.
“Kau lakukan apa yang kuperintahkan hari ini?”
“Yes sir”
“Nah, apa jawabmu ?” la memandangku, seolah olah tahu apa yang akan saya
ucapkan.
“Saya tetap ingin sepatu sport ” Saya berkata tegas, dan berusaha setengah
mati untuk tidak memandang kepada sepatu ayah.
“Kalau begitu, ayah harus potong uang belanja ibumu…..”
“Mengapa tidak pergi dan membelinya sekarang?” lalu ayah mengeluarkan
selembar $ 10. dan memancing uang receh untuk mencari 30 sen guna membayar
3% pajak penjualannya.
Saya menerima uang itu dan segera berangkat ke pusat pertokoan, dua blok
dari bengkel di mana ayah bekerja.
Di depan sebuah etalase, saya berhenti untuk melihat apakah sepatu sportku
masih dipajang disana. Ternyata masih! $9.95.
Namun uang saya tidak akan cukup bila saya harus membeli paku paku yang akan
dipakukan pada solnya dan menimbulkan suara klak klik yang gagah.
Saya pikir, untuk lari ke rumah dan minta bantuan dana dari mama, sebab
tidak mungkin kembali kepada ayah dan minta kekurangannya.
Pada saat saya teringat kepada ayah, sepatu tuanya tampak membayang
melintasi kedua mataku.
Jelas tampak kebututannya, sisinya yang compang camping, paku paku yang
telah mengintip keluar dan sebaris staples yang umumnya dipakai untuk
menjepit kertas.
Sepatu kulit usang yang dipakainya untuk menghidupi keluarganya.
Pada waktu musim dingin yang menggigit, sepatu yang sama dipakainya
melintasi jalan jalan yang dingin, menuju kepada mobil mobil yang mogok.
Namun ayah tidak pernah mengeluh.
Terpikir olehku, betapa banyaknya benda benda yang seharusnya dibutuhkan
ayah, namun tidak dimilikinya, semata mata agar saya mendapatkan apa yang
saya ingini.
Dan kementerengan sepatu sport yang ada di balik kaca etelase di hadapanku
mulai memudar.
Apa jadinya bila ayah bersikap sepertiku.
Sepatu jenis apa yang saat ini kupakai, bila ayahku bersikap seperti saya
bersikap.
Saya masuk ke dalam toko sepatu itu.
Sebuah rak besar terpampang megah, penuh berisikan sepatu sport yang sungguh
keren.
Di sampingnya, terdapat sebuah rak lain, dengan sebingkai tulisan “obral
besar. 50% discount”.
Dibawah bingkai itu tergeletak sepatu sepatu semodel sepatu ayah, beberapa
generasi lebih muda, tentunya.
Otakku bermain ping pong. Mula mula sepatu ayah yang butut.
Dan sekarang sepatu baru. Pikiran tentang: menjadi “in” dan seirama dengan
remaja lain di sekolah.
Dan kemudian pikiran tentang ayah,…. telah mengalahkannya.
Saya mengambil sepatu ukuran 42 dari rak yang berdiscount.
Dengan segera berjalan ke arah meja kasir, ditambah pajak, jadilah bilangan
$ 6.13.
Saya kembali ke bengkel dan meletakkan sepatu baru ayah di atas kursi di
mobilnya.
Saya mendapatkan ayah dan mengembalikan uang kembalian yang masih tersisa.
“Saya pikir harganya $ 9.95″ kata ayah.
“Obral” kataku pendek.
Saya mengambil sapu, dan mulai membantu ayah membersihkan bengkel.
Pukul lima sore, ia memberi tanda bahwa bengkel harus ditutup dan kami harus
pulang.
Ayah mengangkat kotak sepatu ketika kami masuk ke dalam mobilnya.

Dan bila saya tumbuh menjadi dewasa, saya sungguh ingin menjadi seperti
orang baik ini, yang Tuhan berikan kepada saya sebagai ayah saya.
Ayah meletakkan tangannya pada bahu saya, dan kami saling memandang untuk
waktu sesaat.
Tidak ada kata kata yang perlu dikatakan.

A Chinese man walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan
officer. He tells the loan officer that he is going to China on business
for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000.
